I think this song is more about the evolution of entitlement. It happens to end up this way, because people are not all equal, and its amoral to an individual's psyche to believe there is. We've tried this many times in the past, it requires a one partied government to accomplish, and leads to a way more inhumane society that the goals origin. My hope is that out in the universe there is another life of some sort to experience than the insignificance of "There's a bigger picture than the systems that are in place right now which control the masses of people, one where we all work together and nobody is better than the next man and everybody get's what they deserve.no more and no less." The thing is people are so used to the way the world works, and it's never going to change as there will always be war and injustice.

I really don't see Government, Religion, Schools, and the Justice System as part of the advancement.Schools I say because of the way they are designed these days. It's the systems in place which downgrade our society and further postpone advancement in all areas of life. There's a bigger picture than the systems that are in place right now which control the masses of people, one where we all work together and nobody is better than the next man and everybody get's what they deserve.no more and no less. Sooner or later there will be a true revolt from people (I hear this song was written after the LA Riots) and thus society and the systems in place are living on the edge. General CommentThe ideology of our race has many flaws, it's as if people see and don't care or are not equipped with the right set of eyes to see injustice in their own world as it is all around us from the homeless people, to the social classes and justice system which are just examples of issues anybody see's anywhere. Livin' on the edge, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah If chicken little tells you that the sky is fallin'Įven if it wasn't would you still come crawlin'Īgain and again and again and again and againĮven if it was would you still come crawlin'īut we can tell 'em no or we could let it go Tell me what you think about your situationĬomplication, aggravation is getting to you Livin' on the edge (everybody, everybody) Give me the Cryin'/Crazy/Amazing ballad trifecta over unfocused "Social Message" crap like this any day. There's somethin' wrong with the world today And the background vocals make me want to toss the CD out the window. People barely remember the L.A riots and the song isn't focused enough to make you connect the lyrics to them anyway. "Livin' On The Edge" is just a mess by comparison.Ĭhild abuse is still topical. "You can't help yourself from falling"? More child-like whining and they repeat the line over and over.Īt least "Jamie's Got A Gun" had focused lyrics with a story to them, and a better melodic hook, and delt with a more timeless, relatable, specific topic that more people have been affected by than the L.A riots (or any riots at all). Wait let me check Wikipedia! Maybe that will help clear things up.Ĭlick to expand.Really? I didn't pick that up from the lyrics at all and wouldn't have known that if I didn't read that on Wikipedia. Near as I can tell the song's not even about one specific problem it's some vague whine about all the world's "problems" without really mentioning any of them in particular. What? It's right that everyone knows that something's wrong? If everyone knows something's wrong, then what's the rest of the whining about in the song? And what's the "something"? Angst? Apatahy? "There's something right with the world today and everybody knows its wrong". The only one telling me that the "sky is falling" here is you, Steven. "If chicken little tells you that the sky is falling, even if it wasn't would you still come crawling back again".

What does that even mean?! Meltdown in the sky? "There's something wrong with the world today, the light bulb's getting dim. Steven? An outside songwriter or producer? And why make it a single? I'd love to know who in the Aerosmith camp decided that this song needed to be on the album.

I know I'm about 18 years late with this but after re-listening to Get A Grip Aerosmith's "Livin' On The Edge" might be their worst song, period:
